Our primary objective for building this game is to test our limits as a development studio and to enter the market with a product that showcases our skillset. The business model of the game Paperboy is yet not part of it as it is intended to make it free on Steam.
This phase consists of the core functionalities being implemented and tested to see whether making the game is possible or not. It also helps determine the scope of the game.
Pre-production includes everything about the game that is necessary for full-scale development which features Concept Art, Branding, Character Design, UI Design, Game Design etc.
A complete version for an in-house launch will feature all the functionalities the game has to offer (special features excluded) and present them to QA for testing. It’s not the final look of the game but it is far enough to not start over on any feature.
This version includes all the final artwork, UI, animations and features that will be in the final games after fixing the bugs from QA. It will be soft-launched to a small group of users and stakeholders before the official launch.
For the day of evaluation, the full release on digital platforms with development closed is prepared for reviews and fixes.
The game is available on Itch.io. Itch.io is an open marketplace, with a focus on independent video games, for independent digital creators. This platform allows game developers to monetize, or simply publish their games.
You may find the platform distinctive, fascinating, and independent with a lot of games online on it. With a large selection of both paid and free stuff, it does not average the limit to only an online storefront.
The ideation setting behind the theme is from the 80s. A regular summer morning in the suburbs of America. Where a schoolboy is riding his bicycle delivering the newspaper. The player takes on the character of a paperboy who rides his bicycle along a suburban street delivering a fictional newspaper named The Daily Sun. Bike handlebars are controlled by the keyboard keys.
Our main source of inspiration as a web3 game design studio was to revive the nostalgic yet enthralling childhood game. It is designed in such a way that users may play the game more conveniently on their phones as well as enjoy a 3D look, amazing graphics, engaging characters, compelling speed, and a controllable camera angle. This is important for the mass adoption of web3.
For the scenic prospect of the Paperboy game, the mood board was a constituent of all the elements containing a hint of ‘summer, morning and an urban city of America’. Exhibiting warm colour tones, Green blue sky, Pop 80’s colours, Retro city architecture, and the Reagan decade VFX framing view and lastly with Heads up Design (HUD) screens.

Each play session is a new day and the subscriber houses are marked with glowing mailboxes. Each play session is a new day and the subscriber houses are marked with glowing mailboxes.
The player can only hold up to 12 newspapers at a time, the rest they can pick up along the way.
The UI is designed using Figma screens features. All the customized screens have appropriate and relevant designs for the game. With the help of UI design, the look, feel and emotion of a nostalgic game are properly conveyed.
The design assets used in game development are free and customized per requirement. The assets utilized a total cost of 0$ budget as available free items are used.
In the classical version, showing a cabinet perspective of a suburban street where a paperboy on a bicycle is delivering newspapers is controlled by the player. The player tries to deliver a week's worth of daily newspapers to paying customers, and stay clear of obstacles on the street. If a delivery is missed or a subscriber's home is damaged, the overall points of delivery are subtracted. If the delivery is successful into the subscribers' house, points are added.
The game starts off with the schoolboy starting his ride to distribute papers to subscribers flawlessly for a session while avoiding crashes (each of which costs the player a life).
